The touchdown box
The touchdown box is the only thing Landing Rate shows on its own. It appears the moment the wheels touch the ground and goes away by itself.
What it shows
Landing rate and your vertical speed at the touch, in feet per minute, for example −182 fpm. The dot beside it gives the feel at a glance:
| Dot | Vertical speed | Feel |
|---|---|---|
| Green | 0 to −300 fpm | Smooth |
| Amber | −301 to −450 fpm | Firm |
| Red | below −450 fpm | Hard |
The number is the rate at the moment of contact, measured by the add-on itself, not a value averaged over the last seconds. If you bounce, the box keeps the first touch: the bounces are in the report.
The box shows nothing else on purpose: the G-force, the stars and the rest wait for the report, so nothing distracts you during the rollout.
Where it sits and how long it stays
In Settings, under At touchdown:
- Show the landing rate turns the box on or off.
- Position: Top, Bottom, Left or Right. At the top it sits just under the simulator’s toolbar. In VR it is always at the top center.
- Stays on screen: 5, 8 or 15 seconds. The time stops while the simulator is paused.
Things to know
- The box does not take clicks and cannot be dragged. That is deliberate: no window is created at the touchdown, so the landing stays smooth.
- After a touch and go the box still shows the rate of that touch. The report does not open for it.
